Monthly Recap – May 2010

May . . . At A Glance
Stocks were slammed across the board in May as we officially entered a market correction. Investors were concerned about European debt issues creating a worldwide slowdown and European stocks led the way, although risk was punished throughout the markets.
Volatility, a way to measure fear, spiked in the market and was exemplified by the May 6 “Flash Crash”. The mechanics of the drop in the market are still unknown, but investors need to come to terms with periods of spiking volatility. A flight to safety buoyed high quality bonds but junk bonds were not spared.
